Waterton Canyon features an easily accessible road that connects the Colorado Trail south of Denver. Numerous activities can be enjoyed here from fishing, trail running to mountain biking, hiking and more.
My first trip to Waterton Canyon was as a novice mountain biker with a heavy outdated bike frame and no skill. The road was easy, no problem, but once we started up the switchbacks my anxiety kicked in. I like mountain biking, but I suck at the technical and I hate when riders zoom up behind you wicked fast on the single track. Terrifying, needless to say.
We rode up as much as we could, me that is I was the problem, before making our way back down to the road. Coming down was worse for me than going up, but I’m curious how I would feel now to return to Waterton after gaining more skill and mileage on the bike.
The road was so fun and iconic with the bighorn sheep and other wildlife sightings right next to the creek as you rode back down the gravel road. The sunset was superb and the company even better!
